Water supply stable until late June: water agency
The Water Resources Agency said yesterday that torrential rainfall over the past week has relieved the strain on reservoirs in southern Taiwan after a month-long drought, stabilizing the country's water supply until late June.
Wu Yueh-his(吳約西), the agency's deputy director, said although the recent downpour was concentrated on coastal areas, it increased water levels in Tainan's Wushantou(烏山頭)Reservoir to 88 percent.
Meanwhile, Chiayi's Tsengwen(曾文) Reservoir and Tainan's Nanhua(南化) Reservoir reached 20.7 percent and 50 percent, respectively, he added.
Water supplies will remain stable into the end of June and there will be enough water for irrigation for the year's first rice crop, Wu said.
Lin Yuan-peng(林元鵬), another agency official, said any downfall from the plum rain season caught by the Tsengwen Reservoir would help irrigate the second rice crop in the Chiayi-Tainan area.
