Ｇender Ｒoles

     In today’s society, people want gender roles to be equal. Could this be achieved? According to Margaret Mead’s points, gender roles are not determined by our biology, but by our educational and social environment, so it’s possible to achieve the goal.

     I agree her point. Although we couldn’t change our gender, we can change our gender roles. In the past, for example, our society old concepts think that men should be doctors or engineers and women should be teachers or nurses. However, in today’s society, we are educated about gender equality. Everyone can choose which positions want to be. For instance, my senior high school female classmate who now is studying engineering is going to have an engineer assistant job after she graduate.

     Because today’s concepts and the example of my senior high school female classmate, I think that I will raise my children in a free way. I will encourage him or her to do the work which they want to do in the future.

     Finally, we find that in today’s gender roles are more equal than before. The equality of gender roles has succeeded, but still need to work on it.
